Introduced to life in the water from infancy, I have held the water as my safe place. No matter what is going on in my life spending time in and around the water allows balance to be reestablished within me. This paired with nature based active peer support I experienced while becoming an Eagle Scout, I have witnessed the transformations supportive programs like Sandy Feet Initiative can facilitate.
My work as a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist exposes me to the daily stressors youth and adults experience. Regardless of age those who I interact with professionally who are siblings of individuals with special needs, put themselves aside to tend to others in their family. Frequently this develops minimal chances to have them to allow for their own needs met. Sandy Feet Initiative provides the time, the safe space, and the supportive environment to allow siblings to establish connections with peers familiar with their experience.
